The Northamptonshire County Council owned building, Hemmingwell Lodge was identified as suitable premises for the relocation of Abbey Medical Practice, Dr Datta and Partners and Dr Patel and Partners.
Emergency refurbishment work is being carried out on the building to allow the GP practices to be re-established in permanent accommodation for approximately 18 months, while previously planned purpose built premises are completed on the Isebrook Hospital site.
The patients of all three GP Practices will be contacted directly to inform them of when the practices will begin providing their services from Hemmingwell Lodge along with confirmation of all routine and emergency telephone numbers for their respective GP practice and travel details to the new premises.
A spokesperson from NHS Northamptonshire said “The extremely fast turnaround of the relocation of the three practices is largely due to the excellent partnership working between Northamptonshire County Council and NHS Northamptonshire. We would like to extend our gratitude for the commitment shown by all colleagues of both organisations who have been involved in responding to the fire so efficiently to ensure the continued care of the patients registered with all three practices”
Councillor Andrew Langley, Northamptonshire County Council cabinet member for commercial and asset management said: “This is a great demonstration of true partnership working and I am pleased that we have been able to help our NHS partners in this way.
“Although the building is no longer fit for our purpose, the NHS is able to use it to ensure that they can continue to offer essential GP services to people living in the local area.
“This was an emergency situation and so we are working with them to move the GP practices into Hemmingwell Lodge as quickly as possible. I am now taking a report to cabinet to formalise the arrangements with regards to leasing the building and to ensure cabinet supports the urgent actions that were taken.”
