Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)

HRT

HRT is a treatment to relieve symptoms of the menopause. It replaces hormones that are at a lower level as you approach the menopause. There are many types of HRT for women and it is important that you have a discussion with an Advanced Nurse Practitioner to understand which type of HRT would be suitable for you.

HRT Review

We know that most women who take HRT lead busy lives and struggle to find time to attend appointments. So, we are trying a new way of conducting our HRT reviews that allows us to get the information we need to safely prescribe you this medication whilst minimising the impact on your time. We are asking you to complete and return a questionnaire to provide us with this information and this can be completed from the comfort of your own home and at a time convenient for you.

What do I need to do?

The questionnaire asks all the necessary questions that we require that will enable us to continue to prescribe your HRT. It is important that you answer every question and it is essential that you provide a blood pressure reading otherwise we will not be able to safely review your medication which will result in a delay in you getting your prescription.

If you are genuinely unable to answer these questions then please contact the Practice and explain you are unable to complete the questionnaire and require face to face appointment with an Advanced Nurse Practitioner.

Please don’t worry if you have something you wish to discuss. Answer as many questions and complete the additional section where you can ask any questions. Submit the questionnaire as above. You will be asked to make an appointment with our Advanced Clinical Practitioner to discuss any of your concerns.

How do I check my blood pressure?

We have found that most people have their own blood pressure monitoring machine or know someone who does. If this is not the case, most high street chemists will happily check your blood pressure as a walk in appointment for free.

What happens once I have submitted my questionnaire?

Once submitted, a clinician will review the information provided and make a decision as to whether it is safe to continue to prescribe HRT for another year. Once completed, you will then receive a text message from us to confirm your prescription is ready for collection.

Simple as that!!

If the clinician feels it is not safe for you to continue your HRT, you will be asked to attend an appointment with an Advanced Nurse Practitioner to discuss further.
